What is divination? In brief, divination is the practice of finding answers
to questions, locating objects, foretelling the future, gaining insight into arcane and hidden knowledge which would otherwise be unavailable, and findiing order in seemingly random events. Divination has been around throughout recorded history and is still in widespread practice today.
Many methods are used for divining, the one most people are familiar with is the the use of divining rods or y-shaped branches for finding underground water sources. This technique is called "water dowsing" or "water witching". Many well drilling companies employ water dowsers. Reading tea leaves, casting rune stones, the Chinese I-Ching (Book of Changes), Tarot, Astrology, Kinesiology (muscle-testing) and Numerology are all forms of divination.
Probably the most widespread form of divination is pendulum dowsing. This method employs a pendulum, often a semi-precious stone at the end of a chain. The pendulum is typically held over a chart as inquiries are made. The movement of the pendulum determines the answer.
Although there are many instruction books on pendulum dowsing available, the classic is "Letter to Robin, A Mini-Course in Pendulum Dowsing" by Walt Woods.
